DELEGATE TO RELIABLE HELPERS.

BMW ConnectedDrive Driver Assistance systems in the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé.

Numerous innovative technologies support you in various ways and guarantee the highest level of comfort and safety. So you can focus on one of the important things in life – carefree driving pleasure.

DRIVING ASSISTANT.

The feature Driving Assistant combines the camera-based systems Lane Departure Warning and approach control and person warning with light city braking function.
The Lane Departure Warning detects lane markings and alerts the driver to an unintentional lane change at speeds above approx. 70 km/h by means of vibrations in the steering wheel. The warning is not activated if the lane change is deliberate, that is, when the turn indicator has been activated. Whereas the approach control warning with light city braking function detects vehicles, the person warning with light city braking function reacts to pedestrians. If a vehicle ahead brakes heavily, the BMW responds immediately when the Approach Warning is activated. The system operates in steps. A warning symbol is first displayed, then the symbol begins blinking and an acoustic warning is emitted, and finally the brakes are lightly applied (when travelling at speeds under 60 km/h). The Pedestrian Warning operates at speeds between 10 and 60 km/h and emits a single-level warning in the event of acute danger. If the system warns of a potential collision, the brakes are simultaneously preconditioned for a faster response. In the event of an emergency, the system applies the brakes. This function can be limited by darkness and fog.

BMW HEAD-UP DISPLAY.

The full-colour BMW Head-Up Display projects all information relevant to the journey directly into the driver's field of vision, allowing them to fully concentrate on driving.
The display includes data such as the current speed and – depending on the equipment – navigation tips, Speed Limit Info incl. no-overtaking indicator, telephone and entertainment lists, along with information and warnings from the various driver assistance systems. The icons projected onto the windscreen are displayed in a particularly high resolution and in full colour. The image's projection appears as if it were approx. 2.3 m in front of the vehicle. This, in combination with optimal positioning, allows the information to be read quickly, conveniently and with minimal distraction. The brightness of the projection automatically adjusts to suit the external light conditions, with different displays for day and night, and the height of the display can also be adjusted. Furthermore, the driver can also select which information to display in addition to the current speed and warnings from the driver assistance systems.

NAVIGATION SYSTEM PROFESSIONAL WITH iDRIVE TOUCH CONTROLLER.

The Navigation system Professional features a sleek design and a superior range of services: It delivers a simple and easy-to-use navigation system that is seamlessly integrated into the BMW, including the iDrive operating concept and iDrive Touch Controller. The system comprises the hands-free facility with USB interface and voice control, radio BMW Professional with DVD drive, as well as 20 GB of memory for audio files. It also facilitates the use of Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI). The built-in 8.8" LCD colour display with split screen function (main and supplementary screen) is designed for optimal readability and clarity.
The iDrive Touch Controller with direct menu control buttons, eight functional bookmarks and voice control makes operation intuitive by allowing you to enter the address of your destination in handwriting on its touch-sensitive surface. Thanks to the three-dimensional map display that makes use of satellite images as a map background – with photo-realistic depictions of selected sights – navigation becomes an exciting visual experience.
Map updates are available at BMW dealerships for three years without license fees. Within the framework of BMW ConnectedDrive, in selected European countries the system automatically updates the maps for three years up to four times per year.

SPEED LIMIT INFO.

SPEED LIMIT INFO.

Safety first: Speed Limit Info including no-overtaking indicator shows the current speed limit in the instrument cluster, as well as information regarding no-overtaking zones. This is shown on the Info Display in the instrument cluster or in the Head-Up Display. A special camera detects the relevant traffic signs. This information is processed by a control unit along with data from the navigation system.
Features including the rain sensor are also incorporated, so variable speed limits in specific instances are also registered – under wet conditions or at certain times of day, for example. This means the driver will always be well informed about the road ahead. The Navigation System Business or Professional are required.

ACTIVE PROTECTION.

Active Protection is the BMW ConnectedDrive preventive passenger protection system. If a critical situation arises on the road, the front seat belts are reversibly pretensioned and the side windows are closed – as is the sunroof, if there is one. A critical situation could include emergency braking, or if the car demonstrates excessive understeer or oversteer.
When the vehicle is fitted with approach control warning or approach control warning with braking function, potential collisions with moving or stationary vehicles ahead can be recognised in advance (within the system’s limits).
In certain accident situations, the system can bring the vehicle to a standstill without any intervention from the driver. This helps to reduce the likelihood of a follow-up collision and to minimise the damage caused by one.
In addition, the Attentiveness Assistant monitors the driver’s behaviour for signs of fatigue. This system analyses the steering response and reacts to irregular driving behaviour by issuing a message in the Control Display suggesting the driver take a break.

CAMERA SYSTEMS.

Several different camera systems allow you to keep your eye on what’s going on around you even in unclear situations. Thanks to BMW ConnectedDrive.

  • Rear View camera

The Rear View camera allows the driver to view the area behind the car in the Control Display while manoeuvring and parking. The Rear View camera enhances visibility when reversing at speeds below 20 km/h, for example when parking. Interactive track lines indicate whether the chosen parking space is big enough for the car and provide assistance during parking by marking areas in colour on the Control Display. In conjunction with the trailer tow hitch, the Rear View camera makes the approach when hooking up a trailer easier with a practical zoom function.

  • Surround View

Surround View provides support when parking and manoeuvring in tight situations. The areas to the side and behind the vehicle are captured by cameras and shown in the Control Display from a bird’s-eye perspective (Top View).
Side View is also included, which makes approaching areas with limited visibility (e.g. blind intersections or exits) safer. Two digital cameras on the front left and right of the car film the traffic situation on either side and relay it to the Control Display. This enables early detection of oncoming traffic so that the driver can react appropriately.

PARKING ASSISTANT.

The Parking assistant makes parking parallel to the road easier. Whether activated or not, the system measures potential spaces while driving past at a low speed (below 35 km/h) and at a maximum distance of 1.5 m from the row of parked cars.
When a large enough gap has been found, the driver simply turns on the indicator and the Parking assistant takes over the steering, while the driver continues to operate the accelerator, gears and brakes. The system also gives instructions in the Control Display and additional acoustic signals. This way the driver can stay relaxed and enjoy greater safety while parking.
